INSURANCE

Vehicle Insurance
Vehicle insurance is the type of insurance purchased for cars, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles usually used for protection against traffic accidents. Auto insurance, in particular, is mandatory by law in the United States. There are several categories of vehicle insurance:
Automobile
Motorcycle / ATV / Segway / Snowmobile
Boat / Jet Ski / Waverunner / Sea-Doo
Recreational Vehicle (RV) / Camper
Commercial

Automobile Insurance

Types of Auto Coverage:

Liability Insurance --

a fixed amount of coverage that pays for damages that an insured client is required to pay due to an accident or some form of negligence. Liability insurance is required by law.

Example: John loses control of his car making a turn and hits the only delivery car of a pizza restaurant. Liability insurance would help pay for the physical damages (to the car and its occupant if one were in it) and financial damages (the money the pizza shop might have lost by not having a delivery car).
Collision Insurance --
provides coverage for an insured client's vehicle (after a deductible) in case it is involved in an accident. One might get a payment in order to repair the vehicle or receive the cash value for the car if the insurance company deems that it cannot be repaired (or possibly that repair would be more expensive than replacing the car).
Example: Jane crashes her car into a tree while driving down a neighborhood street and causes $4,523 worth of damage to her vehicle. After she pays her specific deductible of $1,000, her insurance company would give her the additional $3,523 required to fix her car.
Comprehensive Insurance --
this type of coverage accounts for accidents that are not collisions, such as theft, flood, fire, etc. Comprehensive insurance is still subject to deductibles.
Example: While parked at a fast food restaurant, Henry's car gets stolen. It is later left next to a fire and gets engulfed by the flames. After Henry pays his deductible, the insurance company would provide him with money required to pay for these damages.
Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Insurance --
this type of coverage covers other parties that are responsible for an accident and are either underinsured or uninsured.
Example: While driving down a neighborhood street, John's car got struck from behind by a driver whose insurance policy had been cancelled. John's uninsured motorist property damage protection helped cover the damages to his vehicle even though the other party was at fault.
Medical / Personal Injury Insurance --
covers necessary expenses for medical or funeral services provided to you and your passengers as a result of an accident.
Example: Jane was involved in a terrible accident and had some medical bills to pay because of it. Her personal injury protection helped her pay those bills.
Towing and Labor --
an add-on endorsement that covers charges related to towing and the associated labor fees for a disabled vehicle. Coverage depends on your specific policy limits.
Gap Coverage --
an add-on endorsement that covers the difference between the cash value of your vehicle and the amount you owe on it should it need to be replaced by an event covered by your insurance policy.
Rental Reimbursement --
an add-on endorsement that pays for a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired. Coverage depends on your specific policy limits. This is also called Loss of Use.
Sound, Picture & Data Equipment / Special Equipment --
an add-on endorsement that covers the loss of described equipment that was not originally installed in your vehicle or is not permantly installed in your vehicle.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) --
an add-on endorsement that pays for the use of new parts furnished by an original equipment manufacturer (when available) to repair or replace damaged parts.
Auto Death and Dismemberment Coverage --
an add-on endorsement that supplements other benefits. Covers you in case death or dismemberment results from injuries sustained while in the insured vehicle.
